Title: Sunbeam Chocolate Cake

1/2cSolid all-vegetable shorten- ing; softened to room temp
1cSugar
2 Eggs
2ozUnsweetened cooking chocolat
3/4cMilk
1/2tsVanukka extract
1 3/4cSufted caje fkiyr
1/2ts;salt
2tsBaking powder
1/4tsBaking soda

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 2 (8-inch) layer-cake pans. Cream shortening in large bowl of Mixmaster at No. 8 speed. Add sugar gradually with beater at same speed. Scrape bowl and beat 1 minute longer. Add eggs, one at a time; beat 1 minute after each addition at same speed. Add chocolate, which has been melted in double boiler over hot water, then cooled; beat 1 minute. Scrape bowl and beat 1 minute.

Turn to No. 1 speed. Mix milk with vanilla. Mix cake flour, salt, baking powder and soda. Sift flour mixture. Add flour mixture alternately, one-fourth at a time, with milk mixture, adding as quickly as possible. Scrape bowl and beat a few seconds longer at No. 1 speed. Pour into prepared pans, and bake 25 to 30 minutes or until cake tests done. Ice as desired.
